March 30, 2008 Cumberland Times-News MIDLAND — Donald G. Crowe, 77, of O’Mara Ave., Midland, died Friday morning, March 28, 2008, at his residence. Born Dec. 1, 1930, in Midland he was the son of the late Wilbur R. Crowe and Mary P. (McVeigh) Crowe. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Denise M. Crowe, on Sept. 30, 2004; his wife, Joan (Thomas) Crowe, on Sept. 1, 2001; a brother, Wilbur J. Crowe; and sisters, Marie E. (Crowe) Drew and Frances H. (Crowe) Kenner. Don was a 1949 graduate of LaSalle High Institute, attended Frostburg State University for two years, and was a United States Army veteran during the Korean War. He retired from the Kelly Goodyear Tire Co., Cumberland, after 30 years when the plant closed and went to work for the Board of Education, in the Maintenance Department, for six years. Donnie was a fifty- year member of the John J. Devlin American Legion Post 169, Midland. He served as its Commander for many years. Donald was a life member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Midland. He enjoyed the Maryland Lottery and tip jars daily, and also enjoyed golfing and yard work. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. They were the light of his life. He is survived by two stepdaughters, who he raised as his own, Phyllis Wamsley and husband Greg, of Midland and Patricia Fiorita, of Barton; six grandchildren, Ashley Fiorita, Tony Fiorita and wife April, Lynsy Wamsley and fiancé Ian Van Pelt, Wesley Wamsley, Cody Weimer, and Kaitlynn Weimer; four great-grandchildren, Dylan, Grace, Noah, and Ava; one sister, Mary Frances Crowe, of Barton; two brothers, Michael C. Crowe and wife Arlyne, of Mentor, Ohio, and Edward J. Crowe and wife Joan, of Cresaptown. Also surviving is his ex-wife and life-long friend Donna J. Rosenberger, of Frostburg; several nieces and nephews; one sister-in-law, Rosemary Crowe, of Frederick; one son-in-law, Donald Fiorita, of Frostburg; and one daughter-in-law, Laura Moore, of Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Midland, on Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at 9:30 a.m. with Father James Hannon celebrant. At his request, he will be cremated after the services. A private inurnment will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Midland. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made out to the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, P.O. Box 1, Midland, MD 21542. Memorial cards are available at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews. The family would like to thank the Home Hospice Nurses and Aids for all they did for Donnie. **************** I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other. Then someone at my side says: “There, she is gone!” “Gone where?” Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and she is just as able to bear the load of living freight to her destined port. Her diminished size is in me, not in her. And just at the moment when someone at my side says: “There, she is gone!” There are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout: “Here she comes!” And that is dying. -Henry Van Dyke-
