- George Ervin Shepherd, 89, formerly of 396 Bowling Avenue, Bowling Green, died Thursday at the Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home in Oakland. Born in Rawlings Aug. 5, 1893, he was a son of the late Henry Clay Shepherd and Laverne (McKenzie) Shepherd. His wife, Hazel (Sharp) Shepherd, died in 1974. Mr. Shepherd was a retired carpenter for the Glenn L. Martin Aviation Company of Baltimore. He attended Central Assembly of God Church. Surviving are five sons, Floyd E. Shepherd, Rawlings; Louis A. Shepherd, Cresaptown; Vernon L. Shepherd, Bowling Green; Donald G. Shepherd, Church Hill, Tenn.; Harvey H. Shepherd, Kingsport, Tenn.; four daughters, Mrs. Marguerite Sindy, Huntington, W. Va.; Mrs. Edith Grapes, Cumberland; Mrs. Dolores Fletcher, Bowling Green; Mrs. Ramona Haven, Stephens City, Va.; 22 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the George-Upchurch Funeral Home, 202 Greene Street, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at the funeral home Monday at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Thomas Lantz. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Cumberland News, Saturday, March 19, 1983
