McKENZIE – Clara Catherine, 92, Laurel View Village, formerly of Johnstown, died Nov. 4, 2007, at her residence. Born July 13, 1915, in Johnstown, daughter of Clarence L. and Ora J. (Bowman) Barnhart. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Edward R., who passed away on Sept. 10, 2007; and brother, Edgar Eugene. Survived by son, Timothy, married to former Debra Robel, Davidsville; grandchildren, Brian E., married to former Ginger Fulcomer; Kathryn E., married to Matthew Thomas, and Meghan Ann McKenzie, all of Johnstown; and Krista McKenzie, Davidsville; and sister, Helen L., married to the late Walter Ragley, Vinco; also survived by nieces and nephews, and special nephew, Bill Ragley, for his continued support. Clara graduated in the class of 1933 from Greater Johnstown High School, after which she began working at Swank Hardware, where she met her late husband, Ed. In 1984, Clara retired as a supervisor of Patient Registry-Admissions Office at Memorial Medical Center, after a 23-year career. She was a devoted and loving wife to her husband for 64 years. She was a lifelong member of Roxbury St. Paul United Methodist Church on Derby Street, close to the home she was born in. She lived there for 90 years. She was a member of the City of Johnstown’s 8th Ward Election Board and also 8th Ward Republican Club. Her primary goal and focus in life was providing tireless love, help and support to her family and friends. She especially cherished all the time spent nurturing, caring and guiding her son and four grandchildren from infancy to adulthood. Clara was always ready, at the drop of a hat, to be with her family for support of all functions and events including school, sports, music or church. Along with husband, Ed, she spent summers at their cottage at Hartley Dam, Bedford, with son, Tim, and daughter-in-law, Debbie, and her four grandchildren. Eternally devoted and giving wife, mother and grandmother to her family. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at John Henderson Co. Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave., where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, the Rev. Wes Yoder. Entombment, Grandview Mausoleum. Contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
