- Cumberland Evening Times, May 28, 1942 - Miss Iris E. Bean, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Bean, Romney, W.Va., became the bride of Pvt First Class Homer A. Butts, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Butts, 143 Pennsylvania Avenue, this city, May 24.The ceremony was solemnized in St. John's Lutheran church, this city, with the Rev. Edward P. Heinze officiating. Mrs. Lewis Pugh, Romney, was matron of honor and William Umstot, city, was best man. The bride wore a dressmaker suit of powder blue with navy accessories and a corsage of orchids and lillies of the valley. The matron of honor wore a navy blue ensemble and a corsage of yellow roses. Mrs. Butts is a graduate of Romney high school, class of '39. She has been employed in the office of the West Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind for the past year. Mr. Butts is a graduate of Fort Hill high school, class of '39 and is at present in military service and is stationed in New York City where the couple will reside. Following the ceremony Mrs. Pugh entertained with a wedding reception at her house in Romney for the bridal party, immediate family and intimate friends.
