ECKHART — Anna Mary Blank of Eckhart passed away Sunday, June 12, 2011 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. Born Sept. 23, 1928, she was the only daughter of Clara (Michaels) and George Lavin Sr. Anna Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband, Carl J. Blank Jr.; and her four brothers, Clarence, George Jr., Francis, and Dale. She is survived by one son, Carl Dennis Blank Sr. and wife Sharon of Eckhart; and two daughters, Lorna Cannon and husband Robert of Fredericksburg, Va. and Sharon Wheeler and husband Cecil of Frostburg. She is survived by seven grandchildren, Carl Dennis Blank Jr., Sonya Clark, Diana Healy, Katrina Boucher, William Woods Jr., Zachary Woods, and Justina Wheeler. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Eric Clark Jr., Alisha Clark, Morgan Blank, Halle Boucher, and Taegon Healy; a loving sister-in-law, Darlene Lavin; special nephews, Tom and Terry Lavin; a special young lady, Shelley Chabot; dear friend, Nancy Winebrenner; and her favorite rummy opponent, Vince Nair. Mrs. Blank was employed with the Michael Berkowitz Pajama Factory and worked at Miners Hospital. She has served in all offices of the Clarysville Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, most recently as the Vice President and Relief Fund Chairperson, and served on many committees in her 38 years as a volunteer. Mrs. Blank was also Past President of the Ladies Auxiliary of Allegany and Garrett Counties Fire and Rescue Association and worked on the State’s committees of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Maryland State Firemen’s Association. She was an active member of the Fire Prevention Committee and worked diligently to fundraise through raffle ticket sales. Anna Mary volunteered at Frostburg Village Nursing Home, assisting with weekly Wednesday morning Mass for 20 years. She was a lifetime parishioner of St Michael’s Catholic Church. After Carl's death, her faith was her strength and consolation, and she had a particular devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe and prayed the Rosary daily. Anna Mary was an excellent, self-taught cook and always showered her friends and family with delicious meals and original recipes. She loved her flower gardens, hummingbirds, and fresh vegetables. She enjoyed crocheting, spirited card games, and playing with her new-found friend in a puppy named Maya. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the St. Michael’s Catholic Church Building Fund or Clarysville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Friends will be received at Sowers Funeral Home, 60 W. Main Street, Frostburg, on Wednesday and Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Prayers and recitation of the Rosary will be at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday. A joint memorial service with the Clarysville Ladies Auxiliary and Firemen and County Association Auxiliary will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 17, 2011 at 10 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church with the Rev. Eric Gauchat, O.F.M. Cap. and the Rev. William Moody as celebrants. Grandson Carl Dennis Blank Jr. will serve as acolyte and great-granddaughter Morgan Blank will be the altar server. Pallbearers are Carl Dennis Blank Jr., Zachary Woods, Eric Clark Sr., Eric Clark Jr., Todd Logsdon, TJ Logsdon, and Jason Logsdon. Internment will follow the Mass at Eckhart Cemetery.
