(Smith) LaRue, 80, formerly of Frostburg, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012 at Garrett Memorial Hospital. Born Feb. 27, 1932 in Clarysville, she was the daughter of the late James Smith and Helen Lavin Smith. She is preceded in death by her husband, Willard LaRue; and three sons, Michael, James, and Bernie LaRue; brothers, Donald, Herbert, and Duke Smith; sisters, Gertie Brode, Eleanor Murphy, and Katherine Hardy. Elsie was a life-long member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Frostburg where she also volunteered. She also attended St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Oakland. Her children and grandchildren were the most important things in her life. She is survived by daughters, Cheryl Harper and husband, Keith, Frostburg, Michelle Raley, Frostburg, Corinne Pappas and husband Richard, Oakland, with whom she resided with; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and sister, Helen Louise Long. Family and friends will be received at Sowers Funeral Home on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012 from 9 to 11 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial following at St. Michael Catholic Church, Frostburg, at 11 a.m. with Father Ed Hendricks as celebrant. She will be laid to rest with her beloved husband and sons at Emmanuel United Methodist Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, James, Mahlon, Keinen, Roman, Dylan, Seth, Shane, and Shaun. The family wishes to thank Nikki, Mike, Brandy of the ICU Unit at Garrett Memorial Hospital for their loving care. Also, special thanks to Lillian Mitchell, Father Don in Oakland, and Patty Battista.
