Notes |
- Olga was the sixth of seven children born to Ernest Wiseman and Lillie Alice (Crowell) Biggs. She spent her childhood on the family farm near McNeil. (One of her brothers nicknamed her "Dickum" and she was known as "Aunt Dick" to her nieces and nephews.) She attended all eleven grades of the McNeil School (rural school now gone in Caldwell County) and excelled in creative writing. Olga married David Oakley Huff from Harwood, Texas, on October 1, 1938, in Seguin, Texas. They resided in Luling. Together they had five children: Craig, Larry, Carolyn, Dorothy, and Joe. As a young family they moved to Fairbanks, near Houston, where the children attended the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent Schools. Olga was a good Christian woman who regularly took her children to church services. She was a devoted wife and mother. Her homemaking skills were exemplary. She cooked, sewed, did needlework, gardened, and cared for her five children with much thought. She read avidly on the subjects of nutrition, child rearing, and religion. She presented dramatic readings to her children from Bible stories. After her children were grown, she took on the job of office manager in the family business, Dave O. Huff & Sons, an engine rebuilding shop. One child, Joseph, preceded her in death. She died suddenly two years after Joe's death in an auto accident. Olga had suffered with cardiovascular disease for some time. She is greatly missed by her loving family which includes many grandchildren. Her legacy of Christian love and charity lives on within the family.
