      ELLEN McKenzie TUTTE

      Ellen McKenzie Tutte, 77, of Columbia, S.C., died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, in Oviedo, Fla. She was born Oct. 3, 1924, in Panama City, the daughter of Robert Lee McKenzie and Blandford D. McKenzie. Robert Lee McKenzie was one of the founders of Panama City and its first mayor. Mrs. Tutte had degrees from Bob Jones University and Columbia University and did further graduate study at the University of Rochester. She was a science professor at Bob Jones University. After moving to Columbia, she was a violinist with the Columbia Philharmonic. She was a member of New Testament Baptist Church, where she served as pianist. She is survived by her husband, Victor K. Tutte; two daughters, Cathy Stevens and husband, Dan, of Oviedo, Fla., Jane Mayberry and husband, Bill, of Columbia; sister, Anne McKenzie Morton; and grandchildren, Laura, Greg, and Alyssa Stevens. Graveside services will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in Greenwood Cemetery with the Rev. Keith Fagerheim officiating. A memorial service will be held in Columbia at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the McKenzie House Foundation, Box 1653, Panama City, FL 32401.

      Born in Panam City, Florida in 1924. Graduated from Bob Jones University. Earned her masters degree from Columbia University in New York City. Taught at BJU until her marriage to Victor Tutte. has been a professional church organist. Played violin for a number of years in the Columbia Symphony Orchestra. (Was a founding memeber.)
