- Nancy Eveline McCord was born on a plantation near Thomasville, Ga. Her family owned slaves which she remembered as a small child. After the Civil War, one of the slaves chose to stay on with the family & he accompanied Nancy's brother to seminary and learned to preach. He wrote letters to the family as long as he lived telling about his church work.
