- Arthur Lee Turberville
Birth: Feb. 21, 1928
Death: Aug. 12, 1950
A twenty-five year old resident of Franklin, Arthur Lee Turberville,
fatally shot himself through the chest with a single barreled shotgun early Sunday night at the residence of his father-in-law, who pleaded with him not to take his life.
Monroe County Deputy Sheriff, J.N. Kennedy who investigated the incident, stated Turberville shot himself with a 12 gauge weapon in the yard of the home of his wife's father, Earnest Wiggins, in Franklin around 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
Turberville, who had apparently been drinking heavily, appeared at the residence of his father-in-law, a shor time before he took his life and asked to borrow a shotgun to go hunting. Wiggins refused to loan the victum the gun, but Turberville later took the unloaded gun out of the house into the yard and used a shell which he had brought with him to inflict the fatal wound, declared by local officials. Wiggins discovered his son-in-law with the weapon and began pleading with him not to shoot himself. As he did, Turberville placed the barrel of the gun to his chest and pulled the trigger, Mr. Kennedy stated.
Two local doctors summoned to the scene declard that death came brutally to Turberville. None of his family could give reason as to why he should become disposed to commit suicide.
Funeral services were held from the Franklin Assembly of God Church at four p.m. Monday with Sister Mary Agnes Watford, Pastor, officiating. Burial wa in the Corinth Cemetery at Franklin.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Bobbie Nell Turberville, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Turberville, six brothers, Leslie Earl, Cicero, Clyde, Cecil, Clifton, and Joseph all of Franklin, five sisters, Mrs. Rubie Irene McKinley, Mrs. Eunice McKinley, Mrs. Mary Cobb, Miss Thelma Turberville, and Miss Gloria Dan Turberville all of Franklin.
