AVILTON - Elmer Minnick, 81, of 161 McKenzie Road, Lonaconing, (Avilton), died Thursday, April 20, 2000, at his residence. Born on Feb. 26, 1919, in Garrett County, he was a son of the late Bert and Lulu (Caton) Minnick. He was also preceded in death by a son, Karl; three brothers, James, Lawrence, Conrad; and one sister, Eleanor. Mr. Minnick was of the Catholic faith. He was a retired mechanic for Matlack Trucking Company, a member of the AFL-CIO and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann (McKenzie) Minnick; four sons, Joseph Minnick, Centerville, Roger Minnick, Hagerstown, Elmer Minnick Jr., Mount Airy, Bobby Minnick, Linthicum; two daughters, Patricia Winfield, Frostburg, Brenda Minnick, Baltimore; one sister, Ethel McKenzie, Cumberland; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., Grantsville, on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. Prayer services will be conducted in the funeral home on Saturday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. William Moody officiating. Cremation will follow with interment in St. Ann's Cemetery, Avilton, at a later date. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to St. Ann's Cemetery Fund.
