- BARTON - Freda May Minick, 88, of Barton, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018, at Frostburg Village Nursing Home, Frostburg. Born May 2, 1929, in Avilton, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary (McKenzie) Garlitz. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Minick; eight brothers, Roy, Julius, Herbert, Harry, Albert, Patrick, Ira and Carl Garlitz; four sisters, Mildred Tipton, Alma Durst, Beulah Hetz and Shirley Mason. Mrs. Minick worked in food preparation for Frostburg State University. She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Barton. She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m. A prayer service will be conducted in the funeral home on Monday, Jan. 15, 2018, at 11 a.m. with Deacon Harold Bradley officiating. Interment will be in the St. Ann Cemetery. Published in Cumberland Times-News on January 11, 2018
