- Claude William Lindner, 78, formerly of 106 Park Street, died Wednesday at Newton D. Baker Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va., where he had been a patient for 10 years. Born in Cumberland, he was a son of the late Thomas F. and Caroline Virginia (Isaacs) Lindner. His wife, Margaret C. (Hoenicka) Lindner, died in 1964. He formerly was employed by the Cumberland Old Export Brewery and was a former bartender at the 40 and 8 Club and the Liberty Tavern. He served with the Navy Seabees in World War II and was a member of Fort Cumberland Post 13, American Legion, the 40 and 8 Club, and Henry Hart Post 1411, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Leona M. Thielen and Mrs. H. Margaret Townsend, both of Akron, Ohio, and several nephews and nieces. Friends will be received Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Silcox-Merritt Funeral Residence. Services will be conducted there Friday at 9 a.m. by Rev. Marion Helowicz, associate pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Pallbearers will be members of local veterans' organizations.
