- CUMBERLAND — Harriet F. McKenzie, 84, of Trost Avenue, Cumberland, died Saturday, July 31, 1999, at her residence. Born on Oct. 1, 1914, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Philip T. Carolan Sr. and Gertrude P. (Speelman) Carolan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard A. McKenzie Sr., who died on Dec. 15, 1964; and one daughter, June Ann McKenzie, who died July 18, 1959. Two brothers, Philip T. Carolan Jr., Howard T. “Bud” Carolan; one sister, Patricia Griener; and a son-in-law, Ronald H. Whetsell Sr., also preceded her in death. Mrs. McKenzie was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was employed as a case worker for the Department of Social Services on Paca Street, where she retired in 1982. Prior to that she was employed at the library at Frostburg State College. She was a lifelong member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Cumberland. She is survived by one son, Leonard A. McKenzie Jr., and wife, Janet, LaVale; two daughters, Dorothy L. Whetsell, Cumberland, Mary Jo Davalli, and husband, Paul, Baltimore; seven grandchildren, Ron H. Whetsell Jr. and Allen C. Whetsell, both of Cumberland, Jacob A. Davalli and Joshua M. Davalli, both of Baltimore, Linda L. Jenkins, Cumberland, Kathryn E. Brackett, Waldorf, Jennifer L. McKenzie, LaVale; five great-grandchildren, Scott Whetsell, Shannon Isner, Zachary, Nicole and Dillen Jenkins; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Kight Funeral Home, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, 9 a.m., at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Cumberland. The Rev.
