- FORT ASHBY, W.Va. — Russell S. Adams, 89, of Fort Ashby, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, at his residence. Born Nov. 18, 1914, in Magnolia, he was the son of the late Carl and Julia (Hartman) Adams. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Alice Catherine Adams; and two sisters, Louise Speelman and Martha Judy. Mr. Adams was a World War II veteran, having been in the U.S. Army with the Texas 36 Infantry Division. He served in Italy and Southern France. Mr. Adams had been a prisoner of war in Germany. He retired from Allegany Ballistics Laboratory, where he was a sheetmetal craftsman. Mr. Adams was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Cresaptown. Survivors include his son, Dr. Fred Adams and wife Patricia, Keyser; three grandchildren, Ian Adams, Erik and Hope Adams. Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Inc., Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home, with Pastor Nate Davis officiating. Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the local combined veterans honor guard. Published in the Cumberland (Md.) Times-News, October 13, 2004
