- LONACONING — Wilmer Connell Whiteman, 68, of 15319 Old Beechwood Road, Lonaconing, died Jan. 22, 1998, at his home. Born May 28, 1929, in Lonaconing, he was the son of the late Connell Whiteman and Ethel Mae (Broadwater) Whiteman. Mr. Whiteman was a former construction worker, janitor at Liberty Trust Bank of LaVale, and mail carrier in Allegany and Garrett counties working out of the Lonaconing Post Office for over 20 years. He was a member of the Barton American Legion Post 189 and the Senior Citizens of Georges Creek, Lonaconing. Mr. Whiteman was of the Brethren faith. He was a kind and considerate person, never too busy to stop and give a helping hand to all. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. Surviving are his wife, Phyllis Angeline (McKenzie) Whiteman; two sisters, Ellen Vinci and husband, Charles, Lonaconing; and Betty Vinci and husband, Daniel, Lonaconing. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and many aunts and uncles. Friends will be received at the Eichhom-McKenzie Funeral Home. Services will be held at the funeral home Monday, Jan. 26, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Donald Webb officiating. Interment will follow at the Green Cemetery, Lonaconing.
