Born Oct. 31, 1926, at Bittinger, he was the son of the late Norman L. and Pearl C. (Fazenbaker) Bittinger. Mr. Bittinger was preceded in death by his wife, Mae Fern Krause, July 24, 1979; one granddaughter, Heidi Shepherd; and one sister, Pauline Sweitzer. Mr. Bittinger was a self-employed truck driver and a member of the NRA. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during World War II. Surviving are one son, Larry D. Bittinger and wife Barbara, Grantsville; one daughter, Rita C. Durst and husband Marvin, Waynesburg, Ohio; two brothers, Elbert Bittinger, Elizabethtown, Ky., and Kenneth Bittinger, Waynesburg; three grandchildren, Clenton Durst, Janice Moore and Marilyn Johnson; and four great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007, at 1 p.m. with Dick Thomas officiating. Interment will be in the Bittinger Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be accorded by Grantsville Post 214 American Legion. Cumberland Times-News obituary.
