- Todd CHRISTOPHER. Todd's grandmother - CUMBERLAND - Virginia Lee "Nootie" Christopher, 91, of Cumberland, passed away, Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at WMHS-Memorial Campus. Born May 25, 1916 in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Edith (Taylor) Shillingburg and Grover Cleveland "Shill" Shillingburg. She was also preceded in death by her husband Joseph C. Christopher; and one sister, Mary Jane Davidson. Mrs. Christopher was co-owner, of Christopher Photo Lab, Inc., which she co-founded in 1946. The company presently operates as Christopher Imaging, Inc. Nootie's laundry room turned into the Lab Chemical Mix Room in the basement of the original business location on Glenmore Street. She would operate a piece of equipment while bouncing her baby daughter on her knee. She and Joe worked everyday together building the new business and getting it established. When not working in production she would also be the bookkeeper, while keeping house upstairs, cooking and raising her family. There was no vacation for the first 25 or so years for Nootie and Joe, until the last of their 30 years owning Christopher Photo Lab, did they finally do some traveling. A well deserved retirement came in 1976 when son, Dave purchased the business. The hard working couple were then able to catch up on those vacations and yard work. Joe and Nootie were particular proud that their business, that began in 1946, is now being operated by the third generation of their family by Scott and Todd Christopher. Nootie lost her co-worker and love of her life, her husband, Joe on October 2, 2005. Since then, she spent time with family visits, reading, and remaining in her home with her memories and familiar surroundings. She will be very much missed by family and friends, as she was loved so by the family, as she continued her entertaining and witty ways and conversations with anyone she met. She is now with Joe and her God, who she spoke with each day in her "prayer room" where she could see her beloved mountains, sky and clouds from the window. Our mom was "ONE BEAUTIFUL LADY."
