    Notes
    • Mrs. Bernadine Knecht McKenzie, wife of John McKenzie, died at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Knecht, West Salisbury, Feb. 15th, aged 27 years, 10 months and 5 days. She died of tuberculosis, from which malady she suffered a long time, and was confined to her bed since about the first of last September at the home of her parents, who did all for her comfort and welfare that a loving mother and father could do. Her bereaved husband, who is a railroad employee, with headquarters in Pittsburgh, had to be absent from his loving companion most of the time, but he was constantly with her in spirit, while striving at his employment for the maintenance and welfare of his wife and children. Mrs. McKenzie was a good woman, and from the time she was old enough to do housework, she was ever ready to go into any home to work where there was sickness, and help needed. She was of a kind and friendly disposition, and was loved and respected by all who knew her. She bore her long affliction bravely and with Christian fortitude, and when she realized that there was no hope for her recovery, she was resigned to her fate, and in the language of William Cullen Bryant, in his sublime poem, "Thanatopsis," she was sustained and soothed by an unfaltering trust, and approached her grave like one that wraps the drapery of his couch about him, and lies down to pleasant dreams. In addition to being survived by her parents and her husband, Mrs. McKenzie is also survived by three children, namely, Marceline, John and James, who are living with their maternal grandparents. Mrs. McKenzie was one of a family of eleven children, eight of whom survive her, as follows: Marie, wife of Fred Miller, of Kittanning, Pa.; Ruth, wife of William Weber, of Cleveland, Ohio; Francis J., Regina, Martin, Carl, Reta and Jane, at home. The funeral service was held at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, West Salisbury, of which Mrs. McKenzie was a devout and faithful member. The service was conducted by Rev. H. T. Miller, and the Very Rev. J. J. Brady, of Meyersdale. Members of the latter's choir, assisted with the music. The obsequies were attended by a very large concourse of neighbors, friends and sorrowing relatives, many from Somerset, Meyersdale, Grantsville, and other places. Among those from a considerable distance who attended the funeral were Mrs. Julius Henry and Mrs. Leon F. Adams, of Steubenville, Ohio; Mr. and Mrs. William Weber, of Cleveland, Ohio; Michael Hartman, of Monongahela, Pa.; Mrs. Bridget Burkhart, of Donora, Pa.; Mr. and Mrs. Martin T. Meyers, and Joseph J. Meyers, of Pittsburgh; Mrs. Elmer Taylor, Mrs. Margaret Long, and Mrs. Josephine Roman, of Cumberland, Md. The burial arrangement was in charge of Funeral Director J. L. Tressler, of Meyersdale. There were many beautiful floral tributes. Interment was made in St. Michael's Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, February 20, 1930
