- OAKLAND — Rita Elizabeth Johnson, 53, of 1112 Dennett Road, died Thursday, May 25, 1989, at her residence. Born Nov. 15, 1935, in New London, Conn., she was the daughter of Ora (Lease) McKenzie and the late Clarence Alvin McKenzie. Mrs. Johnson was a retired school teacher, having taught elementary school in the Garrett County school system for 30 years. She was a member of the Garrett County Retired Teachers Association and a Hospice volunteer. Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Wayne R. Johnson; two brothers, Richard A. McKenzie and James E. McKenzie, both of Cumberland; four sisters, Mrs. Jackie Holster, Frostburg; Mrs. Marion Brown, Monroeville, Pa.; Mrs. Sonia Senn, Ridgeley, W.Va.; and Mrs. Rebecca Ann Tolson, Augusta, Ga.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Friday. Services will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church by the Rev. Dr. Allen Ridenour and the Rev. Father Martin Feild. Interment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens.The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to Hospice of Garrett County or the Southern Garrett Rescue Squad.
