- On Sunday, June 21, 2020, Bernard J. Layman, of Glen Burnie, passed away at the age of 74. He was a loving father and grandfather to two daughters, Stacy and Mary Beth; two grandchildren, Shannon and Joshua; and a great-granddaughter, Carlynn. After he retired from Northrop Grumman as an electrical engineer, he devoted his time to family. He understood that love is the greatest blessing in life. All of his life he lived in Maryland. He was a long-time resident of Glen Burnie. He was born in Frostburg to Blaine and Mary. Bernie was a dedicated brother to six siblings. He was preceded in death by Michael, Virginia, and Angela. He is survived by Anthony, Teresa, and Margaret in the Cumberland area, and many nieces and nephews. He attended Beall High School. He greatly looked forward to seeing his classmates at reunions. In his younger years, he enjoyed mechanical hobbies. True to his roots, he appreciated a good tomato sandwich. Bernie was known for his humble kindness and sense of humor. He believed in God's timing and was at peace with dying, but he will be greatly missed. No services are planned at this time. Online condolences may be expressed at mccullyfuneral.com.
