- Ralph C. Arnold Sr. (Dorothy Agnes RALEY-4, Barbara Magdalene MCKENZIE-3, Patrick Henry-2, John M.-1) was born on 10 Jan 1943 in Frostburg, Allegany Co., Maryland. He died on 6 Jun 1999 in Cumberland, Allegany Co., Maryland. Ralph C. "Fred" "Heavy" Arnold Sr., 56, of 337 Sampson Rock Road, Finzel, died Sunday, June 6, 1999 at Sacred Heart Hospital. Born Jan. 10, 1943, in Frostburg, he was the son of Dorothy A. (Raley) and the late Charles L. Arnold. His sister, Bonnie Arnold Twigg, also preceded him in death. Mr. Arnold was a lifetime member and acting president of Teamsters Local #453, Cumberland.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a member of the Frostburg United Methodist Church, Joint Council 40 and 62, National Frieght Committee, National Highway Construction Committee, National Pipeline Negotiating Commiittee, Western Maryland Trades Commiittee, and former member of the Eastern Garrett County Volunteer Fire Department, where he formerly served as Chief.
Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Margaret "Peggy" (Layman) Arnold; a daughter, Sherry Buffenmyer and husband, Jeffrey, Finzel; two sons, Ralph "Butch" Arnold Jr. and wife, Molly, Finzel, and Charlie Arnold, Finzel; two sisters, Robin Shaver, Finzel, and Sandra Booth, Mount Savage; three special grandchildren, Connor Arnold, Taylor Buffenmyer and Casey Arnold; and several nieces and nephews.
He was a wonderful husband and father, inspiring so many lives. May his memory live forever. Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. George Aist officiating. Interment will be in the Layton-Arnold Cemetery, Sampson Rock Road, Finzel. Military honors will be accorded at graveside by the Farrady Post #24 American Legion Honor Guard.
He was buried on 8 Jun 1999 in Arnold-Layton Cemetery, Finzel, Garrett Co., Maryland
