“After father (Ambrose) served his three years of apprenticeship, they came to Salisbury, PA, then called Brush Town. Here the three brothers (Ambrose, Ferdinand, and Daniel) formed a partnership which later dissolved. They built a commodious shop which they feel with all kinds of furniture in the winter months and left it for mother and I to sell during the summer, they going to build houses.” They lived in Salisbury until their home was destroyed by fire in September, 1867

      (http://www.Salisburypa.com/tragedies.html: 1868)-

George Francis Breig 1865 – 1944, often referred to the fact that the family had escaped from the burning house with nothing but their night clothes. George was a baby and his sister Esther carried him out of the burning building... after the fire the family moved to Greenville, then to St. Paul... when they lived in Salisbury, they walked to Meyersdale (a distance of 10 miles) to Mass. Sometimes one carried a baby. Mrs. Mary Olinger Cook told Esther Breig (a granddaughter of Ambrose and Margaret) that Grandmother Breig would start knitting a sock when they left their house, which she would have finished by the time they arrived in Meyersdale. On the return trip, she finished knitting the second sock. What industry and what skill!

      One less at home!
The charmed circle broken -- a dear face,
Missed day by day, from its usual place,
But cleansed, saved, perfected by grace,
      One more in heaven!

      One less at home!
It's pain, its sorrow and its toil to share.
One less the Pilgrim's daily cross to bear.
One more the crown of the blessed to wear
      At home in heaven!

Margaret was buried beside her husband in the old cemetery of SS Philip and James. Their bodies were moved to the new cemetery some years after they died.

Sister. This star by star declines
      Till all are passed away
As morning high and higher shines
      To pure and perfect day.
Nor sink those stars in empty night
They hide in heaven's own light.
