- Helen E. DURST (George Lemuel-3, Nancy Ellen MCKENZIE-2, John M.-1) was born on 3 Jul 1917 in Akron, Summit Co., Ohio. She died on 31 May 2007 in Cumberland, Allegany Co., Maryland. CUMBERLAND — Helen E. (Durst) Altstetter, 89, of Cumberland, died on Thursday, May 31, 2007, at the WMHS-Memorial Campus. Born July 3, 1917, in Akron, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late George Durst and Elizabeth (George) Durst. Mrs. Altstetter was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” L. Altstetter. Mrs. Altstetter, along with her husband, Bob, owned and operated the Rock Lodge Garage/Motel/Campground on Martin’s Mountain. Earlier in her career, she worked in the office of the Allegany County Clerk of the Court. She was a member of the Centre Street United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Route 40 Association and the Flintstone Homemakers. Mrs. Altstetter is survived by her sisters, Ruth Lee (Durst) Strong and her husband Charles, Cumberland, and Eleanor (Durst) Baker and her husband Everett, Rock Hill, S.C.; her brother-in-law, Wilbert Altstetter and his wife Virginia, Littleton, Colo.; four nieces; one nephew; and her special friends, William “Bill” and Donna Jean Liller, Cumberland. Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.adamsfamilyfuneralhome.com) on Sunday, June 3, 2007, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday, June 4, 2007, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Lloyd B. McCanna officiating. Interment will be held in Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family requests that memorials be made to the Centre Street United Methodist Church, 217 N.
