CORRIGANVILLE - Leola Belle Burkett, 82, of Cash Valley Road, Corriganville, died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at WMHS Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland. Born March 22, 1911, in Pocahontas, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Lewis H. and Anna (Steinly) McKenzie. Surviving are three sons, Robert and wife Mary Louise (Spataro), of Corriganville, Terry and wife Judi (Witt) and William and wife Carole (Frankenberry), both of Mount Savage; four daughters, Connie Martin, married to Dennis, of LaVale, Jean Boor, widow of John C, and Susan Aldridge, married to Charles, both of Corriganville, and Lou Ann Shircliffe, married to Bill, of Universal City, Texas; one brother, Stanley McKenzie and wife Doris, of Aurora, Ohio; 20 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Burkett, a homemaker, was a kind and giving woman who lived for her family. She taught her sons and daughters about the importance of family and showed them how to love one another. Her love was unconditional. For her, happiness was having all her children and grandchildren come together for a big family dinner which she cooked and for which she baked her famous homemade rolls. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren will remember her as Grammy, the precious woman who made them feel at home. She was always there for them. They knew when they were at Grammy's, they were going to get a hug and something good to eat. She is now in heaven with "Daddy," Irvin W. Burkett, her husband of 65 years, who preceded her in death in 1997. The two of them will live in the hearts of their children and children's children forever. The Burkett children were blessed with wonderful parents, for which they thank our Lord. Mrs. Burkett also was preceded in death by four brothers and seven sisters. Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, on Thursday, March 9, from 7 to 9 p.m., on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and at the church for one hour immediately before the funeral service. Funeral services will be conducted at St. John's United Church of Christ, Corriganville, on Saturday, March 11, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Steven L. Craft officiating. Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale. Cumberland Times obituary.
