FINZEL - Helen Lucinda McKenzie, 87, formerly of Finzel, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004, at the Frostburg Village Nursing Care Center. Born May 28, 1917, in Finzel, she was the daughter of the late Harvey H. Caton and Sarah E. (Brown) Caton Bittner. She was also preceded in death by her soulmate and husband of almost 65 years, Thomas Franklin McKenzie; two sisters, Viola E. Caton and Ruth C. Fadeley; and one daughter-in-law, Carol J. McKenzie. Mrs. McKenzie was a farmer, homemaker, and formerly employed as a seamstress with Flushing Shirt Factory, Grantsville, Meyersdale Manufacturing, Meyersdale, Pa., and retired from Salisbury Sportswear, Inc., Salisbury, Pa. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg. Helen was a generous and loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who welcomed all to her home. She will always be remembered for the meals she prepared and the homemade baking she did for everyone. Surviving are eight sons, Paul F. McKenzie and wife Mary, Clarksburg, Bernard F. McKenzie, Salisbury, Harold J. McKenzie and wife Beverly, Severn, John T. McKenzie and wife Linda, Laurel, Larry J. McKenzie and wife Frances, Salisbury, Dale A. McKenzie and wife Gail, Frostburg, Charles L. McKenzie and wife Dianna Lynne, Finzel, and David E. McKenzie and friend Debra Beachy, Meyersdale; two sisters, Mary Romesburg, Meyersdale, and Irene McKenzie, Frostburg; 20 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg, on Monday at 8 a.m. with Monsignor Paul Byrnes as celebrant. Interment will be in the Finzel Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be directed to Saint Michael's School, 56 E. Main St., Frostburg, MD 21532. Cumberland Times-News
