- William Ellis MCKENZIE (Leo W.-2, Isadore J.-1) was born on 19 Sep 1895 in Gilmore, Allegany Co., Maryland. He died on 24 Jun 1939 in Cumberland, Allegany Co., Maryland. Funeral services for William McKenzie, 44, Cresaptown, who died Saturday night at Allegany Hospital, were conducted this morning at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Midland. Rev. Elmer T. Fisher, pastor, was celebrant of the requiem mass. Interment was in Belvadere cemetery. A son of Leo McKenzie, Gilmore, he was a World War veteran, serving in the Machine Gun Corps of the Fifth Division. He saw service in many of the important battles of the war, including the Argonne, St. Mihiel and the St. Die sector and was one of the fifty thousand soldiers remaining in Germany for eleven months after the Armistice to guard the Rhine. His brother, James McKenzie, died in France from drowning. Mr. McKenzie was gassed and had been a patient in the Walter Reed Hospital, Washington, on numerous occasions. Besides his father, he is survived by his wife, the former Miss Elizabeth Grabenstein, of Cresaptown, a patient in a Baltimore hospital, and the following brothers and sisters: Bernard, Cleveland, O.; Joseph, Robert, Mrs. Charles Beeman, and Miss Agnes McKenzie, Gilmore.
