CUMBERLAND — Anthony W. “Dub” “Mac” McKenzie, 93, of Wiley Ford, died Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. Born March 28, 1917, in Mount Savage, he was the son of the late Elmer C. and Nellie G. (Poorbaugh) McKenzie. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Jennie (Duckworth) McKenzie; a daughter, Margaret “Peggy” (McKenzie) Chaney; three brothers, Melvin, Reford and Arthur McKenzie; and a sister, Leona Maley. Mr. McKenzie served in the Army during World War II with the 164th Combat Engineers, and retired from the Army National Guard with over 25 years of service. Known as “Dub” or “Mac,” Mr. McKenzie was a baker with the Federal Bake Shop, then worked as a cafeteria manager at Kelly-Springfield Tire Company and Celanese Fibers Corporation. He retired as a kitchen manager at Green Ridge Forestry Camp. He was a member of Gold Star Post 6452, V.F.W., Ridgeley, W.Va., and a former president and lifelong member of the Optimist Club. He is survived by his daughter, Karen Brady and her husband Jim; six grandchildren, Rusty Poland, Maria Winebrenner and friend Bill Kuhlman, Ronni Matthews and husband Gary, Annette Hughart and husband Ken, Karen Chaney, and Jaime Webb and friend Chris Snyder; his great-grandchildren, Beth Anne Fracasso and husband Chris, Zac Winebrenner and wife JoAnna, Rachel Winebrenner, Joshua Fasching and friend Jennifer, Cody Matthews, Nicholas Klavuhn, Sarah Burke and husband Andrew, Mercedes Webb and McKenzie Webb. Also surviving are six great-great-grandchildren, Jordyn Hanlin, Joey Fracasso, Eli Fracasso, Zac Winebrenner, Aliveia Winebrenner and Jeremy Fasching; his brother, Ted McKenzie and wife Angie; his sister, Kathleen Jones; and many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Hafer Funeral Service, P.A., Chapel of the Hills, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Sunday, May 23, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Main Street, Ridgeley, on Monday, May 24, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William Kuchinsky as celebrant. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mr. McKenzie to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 153 Main St., Ridgeley, WV 26753. Interment will follow in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap, Flintstone, with military honors accorded by Post 13, Veterans Honor Guard. May 22, 2010, Cumberland Times-News.
