- Hon. Patrick Edward FINZEL (Sarah Catherine MCKENZIE-2, John M.-1) was born in Nov 1869. He died on 26 Jan 1951 in Vienna, Virginia. He was buried on 29 Jan 1951 in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Cumberland, Allegany Co., Maryland. A burial service for Patrick Edward Finzel, 81, native of Finzel, and former member of the House of Delegates from Garrett county, who died last Friday in a rest home at Vienna, Va., was conducted in St. Patrick's Cemetery here yesterday by the Very Rev. j. Lawrence Kilkenny, pastor of St. Patrick's. Mr. Finzel, a brother of Mrs. A. H. Hawkins and Mrs. Alice Goodwin, Cumberland, resided at 8O4 Rlttenhouse Street, N. W., Washington. Mr. Finzel was chief engrossing clerk in the Maryland State Senate in 1898, and was elected to the Maryland House of Delegates in 1902. Born in Finzel, he was the son of Henry and Sara Finzel. His father, a farmer in Garrett county, named the village of Finzel for his family when he established the first post office in that vicinity. Mr. Finzel served as postmaster there and later as a teacher in Garrett county. He then worked for eight years as a mining superintendent in that vicinity and nearby Pennsylvania. Going to Washington about 30 years ago, he at one time was employed by the federal government census work and later worked as shipping clerk for the Norfolk and Washington there. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Jane Finzel, of the Rittenhouse Street address; two daughters, Sister M. Berchmans of the Sisters of Mercy, and Mrs. Genevieve P. O'Connell, Springfield, Pa.; three sons, Herbert H. Finzel, Silver Spring, Md.; Felix E. Finzel, Washington, and Paul E. Finzel, Bethesda, Md.; five sisters, Miss Margaret Finzel, Mrs. Clara Baer and Mrs. Henry Knepp, all of Finzel, and Mrs. Goodwin and Mrs. Hawkins, both of Cumberland, and six grandchildren. Following a funeral mass yesteray morning at the Church of the Nativity, Washington, the body was brought to the Hafer Funeral Home here where friends were received for a short time before services at the grave. Pallbearers were John Robert and Francis Ruge, Richard and Robert Burkey and Edward Dressman. The Cumberland Evening Times, January 30, 1951
