Berlin, Pa. July 1 – Charles B. McKenzie, 68, of Berlin, dies Sunday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Hubert Garlitz of Barracksville, W.Va., where he had been for the past few weeks. Mr. McKenzie had been ill for the past four months and recently went to West Virginiia in the hope of benefitting his health. His wife, Mrs. Elle McKenzie, passed away 28 tears ago. Surviving are these children, Enoch McKenzie, of Berlin, Lee of Brothersvalley Township; Mrs. Samuel Jones of Somerset; Mrs. Thomas O’Brien of Akron, O.; Mrs. Harry Engelka of Granttown, W.Va; Mrs. Harry Geist of Berlin and Mrs. Garlitz, mentioned above. Five children preceded him in death. Funeral services were conducted this morning in St. Ann’s Church, in Avilton, Garrett County, Md. Interment was in the church cemetery. Charles McKenzie was the son of Barbara Blocher(not Catholic unlike the McKenzie family) McKenzie and Samuel M. McKenzie. His father died when he was just three years old, so his grandparents Samuel Francis and Hannah McKenzie raised him. He intermittently used the middle inital L for Lazora and B. presumably for Blocher. He was a farmer in Avilton MD who retired to Somerset, PA where many of his 13 children lived. He was visiting his daughter Lulu in Barrackville when he died at the age of 54 yrs of age.

Savilla McKenzie Adams, 84, 1311 Main St., Berlin, died May 4, 1983, at the United Methodist Home, Quincy. She was born July 16, 1898, in Keysers Ridge, Maryland, daughter of George W. and Sarah (Ringler) Colflesh. She was preceded in death by parents; her first husband, Enoch J. McKenzie; and second husband, James O. Adams; also four sisters and seven brothers. She is survived by a son, Hilton E. McKenzie, Atlanta, Ga.; a daughter, Mrs. Betty M. Lashley, Chambersburg; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, the Friendship Sunday School Class, senior citizens, ladies auxilary of the Berlin Volunteer Fire Department, and Lady Berlin Rebecca Lodge 277. Friends were received at the Johnson - Kunlman Funeral Home, Berlin, where services were held with the Rev. Kenneth S. Swanson officiating. Interment, Berlin, IOOF Cemetery.
