- John Edward McKenzie, 73, brother of Frank and Miss Mary McKenzie, this city, died suddenly this morning at his home in Mt. Savage. He was a retired coal mine operator. Mr. McKenzie belonged to St. Patrick's Catholic church, Mt. Savage, and was a member of the Holy Name Society of the parish. He operated a Mount Savage tavern a number of years ago. Also surviving are five children, John E. McKenzie, Jr., of Eckhart; Mrs. Grover Green and Mrs. William Lancaster, both of Mt. Savage; Mrs. Frederick DeMann, of Pittsburgh, and Mrs. Samuel Johnson, of Akron, Ohio; another brother, Washington McKenzie, of Butte, Mont., and one more sister, Mrs. Nora Sherman, of Wheeling. Mt. Savage, Dec. 19 — John Edward McKenzie, 73, retired coal mine operator and local businessman, died yesterday at his home in Dutch Hollow. He was a son of the late Jeremiah and Elizabeth (Hutzel) McKenzie. Mr. McKenzie belonged to St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society of the parish. Surviving, besides his widow, Mrs. Kathryn (Lutz) McKenzie, are five children, John E. McKenzie, Jr., of Eckhart; Mrs. Grover Green and Mrs. William Lancaster, both of Mt. Savage; Mrs. Frederick DeMann, of Pittsburgh, and Mrs. Samuel Johnson of Akron, Ohio; two brothers, Washington McKenzie, of Snowhomish, Wash., and Frank McKenzie, of Wheeling, W. Va., and Miss Mary McKenzie, of Cumberland; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The Cumberland Evening Times, December 19, 1946.
