Notes	From David Aiken in July, 2013, as follows: Hi, Mike: Your research on the origins of John McKenzie (b. 1659 in Maryland) certainly makes a strong case that he was not the son of Colin Malcolm and Isobel, but if not, then where did he come from? Anyway, here is my descent from Austin McKenzie: Austin (or Augustine, or Ostin, or Austine) McKenzie (b. 9 Feb 1785 in Westminster, Frederic Co., MD, d. 9 Aug 1849), probable son of Henry McKenzie and Elizabeth Porter, m. Mary Ford (b. 27 Feb 1798, d. 25 Aug 1866) on 21 Jan 1821. Austin was a saddle maker, and lived in a three-family house on Main St., Westminster in 1821. My mother used to have a photograph of this house, but it – along with all of her genealogical research material - was lost in a flood many years ago. I have been unable to find any further information on Mary Ford. Written evidence establishing Austin as the son of Henry has not yet been found, but given the proximity of his residence to those of Henry McKenzie’s other children, it seems probable that he is also Henry’s son, and this is the position generally accepted by other genealogists. Austin is the only child not named in Henry McKenzie’s will, which is apparently the only written evidence linking any of Henry’s children to him. Louisa M. McKenzie (b. 12 Jul 1824 in Westminster, MD, d. 26 Nov 1896) daughter of Austin McKenzie and Mary Ford, m. George Michael Brückner (b. 10 May 1819 in Ansbach, Bavaria, d. 22 Apr 1903 in Seneca Co, Ohio) on 24 Oct 1844 in Seneca Co. Ohio. My mother, June M. (Holzworth) Aiken talked about her great-grandmother (Louisa M. McKenzie) telling her that as a child she (Louisa) played with the children on the McKenzie plantation in Maryland. Louisa moved to Ohio about 1834 and died in 1896, about 22 years before June Holzworth was born, so this story is simply not true. Neither could the story have come from June's mother, Eva Louise Brickner, granddaughter of Louisa M. McKenzie, because Eva was only one year old when Louisa M. died, too young to remember her. According to our family legend, Henry McKenzie had a brother, James, who married an orphan named 'Bridget', and moved to Lexington, KY. Another brother supposedly remained in Scotland. Since the family legend has it that all three brothers were born in Scotland, the sons of a Garret MacKenzie of Dalkeith, and since there is considerable documentary evidence that Henry was born in Maryland, it appears that either (1) the family legend is wrong, or (2) the McKenzie family from which Louisa A. McKenzie descended is not directly related to the same Henry McKenzie (b. 1743) from which the Maryland McKenzies are said to descend. I can find no evidence of a Garret MacKenzie, nor of a brother named James. By the time I began to realize the inconsistencies in this lineage, my mother had become too old to remember without the aid of her research material, which she no longer had. Edward Andrew Brickner, (b. 21 Jun 1866, d. 20 Jan 1924), son of Louisa McKenzie and George Brückner, m. Louisa M. Greenwald, (b. Jun 1868, d. 16 Sep 1961) on 17 Sep 1887 in Tiffin, Ohio. Eva Louise Brickner, (b. 16 Nov 1895, d. 12 Apr 1999), daughter of Edward Andrew Brickner and Louisa Greenwald, m. George Dewey Holzworth, (b. 23 May 1898, d. 14 Sep 1972), on 2 Jun 1917 in Adrian, MI. They had two children: June Marise Holzworth (7 Mar 1918 – 1 Jun 2009) – my mother – married Warren R.
