  2. 3.  Deloris Mae Morris was born on 15 Dec 1928 (daughter of Peter Michael Morris and Edna Mae Devore); died on 5 Dec 2015 in Frostburg, Allegany County, Maryland.

    Notes:

Frostburg, MD- Delores Mae Stottlemyer, 86, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Frostburg Village Nursing Home. She was born December 15, 1928 to the late Pete and Edna Morris. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Rev. Michael Oliver Stottlemyer; her baby, Roger Stottlemyer; two sisters Anna Taylor; and Shirley Plummer; two brothers Richard Morris and wife Marlene; and James Morris and wife Audrey; and one son-in-law Arlie Lease. This amazing woman was one of seven siblings and gave birth to 10 children, losing the first shortly after birth. Her husband passed away when the youngest of the nine was only around seven years old. Says her grandson Greg, Jr., “I have trouble keeping up with three and cannot fathom this responsibility”. Those nine children Penny Lease; Vernon Stottlemyer and wife Lorna; Danny Stottlemyer; David Stottlemyer and wife Jean; Tom Stottlemyer and wife Luann; Debra Poland and husband Greg; Michael Stottlemyer and wife Rose; John Stottlemyer and wife Deborah; and James Stottlemyer and wife Terri; went on to provide her with 20 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren, and 11 step grandchildren for a total of 73 (and growing). She is also survived by one brother Rev. Francis Morris and wife Shirley; one sister Mary Plummer; and two brother-in-laws Charles Taylor and Dick Plummer. This does not include all of the children's friends, friends of friends and people in the community to who she was Mom or Grandma. Along with her husband, she founded the Potomac Valley Revival Center in Rawlings, MD, which has been a consistent staple of the community for over 50 years. She ministered there many times especially after her husband passed. Virtually every single one of those "73" (old enough to talk) can tell stories of growing up in that church. While she wouldn't want to be put in the spotlight for it, that church has helped rescue and save the lives of more people than she ever knew. Says her grandson Greg, Jr. “What I do know is that as far back as I can remember, every time I walked in that church, I could count on seeing her sitting about five rows back, in the aisle, on the left side of that church.” Her strength shown throughout the years is only matched by her love of the Lord. Many may have known her as the persistent/reliable candy lady that was always at the mall selling peanut butter candy to raise money for the church. Most will remember the person who they could call 24/7, no matter what the reason, so that she could pray with/for you to the point that even though she was on the other end of the phone, it felt like she was in the room with you putting her hand on your shoulder saying it was going to be alright, and you believed it because she said so. Greg,Jr. says that “Today, Grandma went home to be with Pap. My favorite last memory was just last week getting back to town in time to introduce her to my Drew (#72). Not only will she be missed by her family, but there is a whole community that has lost a pillar.” We love you and will miss you! See you again soon. Notes:

While returning in a wagon to their home along Tonoloway Mountain, four miles west of Hancock, about 8 o'clock at night, John McCusker, his son, Claude McCusker, and William Pryor, who was in the wagon with them, were shot from ambush. John McCusker is the most severely hurt, having been shot in the back of the head, in the temple and in the back and shoulders. Dr. James A. West, of Hancock, who was hastily summoned, picked about 25 bird shot from his wounds. Claude McCusker was peppered in the face, as was also Pryor, who may loose his eyesight. Dr. West thiuks the sight of one eye is gone, as a shot penetrated the eyeball. James Stottlemyer, who was also in the party, was unhurt. The men were all in a merry mood and left Hancock shortly after dark in McCusker's wagon. They postively refuse to state who shot them, but it is understood a young man who had been husking corn in a field along the road is accused. The Hagerstown Mail, October 26, 1900.

  1. 8.  Andrew Jackson StottlemeyerAndrew Jackson Stottlemeyer was born in Mar 1840 in West Virginia; died on 7 Sep 1900 in Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland.

    Notes:

In 1900, he is in Hagerstown, Maryland.

    A. J. Stottlemyer, living near Hancock, was struck by P. & R. engine No. 540 in the Western Maryland yard in this city at 12:20 o'clock today and died in a few minutes afterward at the train dispatcher's office, where he was taken. Both legs and his right arm were severed and his body badly mangled. When picked up he had a silver dollar in his hand, which he held until he died. Mr. Stottlemyer came here this morning to attend to his pension papers and had gone to the railroad to take a train for home. He boarded the noon train from Baltimore pulling into the yard, and jumped off. The engine was moving slowly and the engineer claims he did not see Mr. Stottlemyer, who failed to observe or hear the engine. His mangled remains were placed on a stretcher aad removed to the train dispatcher's office, where he died in a few minutes. Dr J. McP. Scott, the company's physician, was summoned, but found it impossible to be of any service. It was not known who the injured man was until his pockets were searched and the pension papers found. The railroad officials notified Justice Hoffman, who then made an investigation. It is thought his death was purely accidental. Mr. Stottlemyer was aged about 60 years and lived a few miles from Hancock. He leaves a large family. His body was forwarded to Hancock that evening. The Hagerstown Mail, September 7, 1900.

Andrew J. Stottlemyer, who was killed by an engine in the W. M. yard here, took place this afternoon at Mt. Olivet Presbyterian Chapel, two miles from Hancock. Misses Mollie and Laura Stottlemyer, daughter of the deceased, accompanied the remains from this city to Hancock. The Hagerstown Mail, September 14, 1900.

Mary Stottlemeyer, widow of Andrew J. Stottlemyer, and her seven children, by Attorney A. R. Hagner, docketed a suit against the W. M. R. R. Co. for damages resulting from the death of Andrew J. Stottlemyer, who was killed in the W. M. yards in Hagerstown last summer by being run over by a train. He jumped on the Baltimore accomodation, mistaking it, it is said, for the train for Hancock. In attempting to get off the train after it had started, he was run over by a shifting engine. This declaration has not been filed, but it is understood negligence on the part of the railway company will be alleged. The Hagerstown Morning Herald, June 13, 1901.
