    OIL CITY, Pa. — In the early morning hours of Monday, March 24, 2014, Earnest E. “Earnie” Deal, 68, of Oil City, was received into the loving arms of his Heavenly Father. Born at home on April 26, 1945, in Borden Mines, he was a son of the late James and Viola Winebrenner Deal. He graduated from Beall High School in 1963 and served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Vietnam War, earning the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. After leaving the Army, Ernie attended Allegany Community College and graduated from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science in 1975. Ernie worked his entire life as a funeral director. He began his career in Erie, Pa., at John J. Quinn Funeral Home, where he worked for nine years. In 2012, he retired from Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home in Chambersburg, Pa., after 27 years of service. He began attending the Frostburg Church of the Nazarene as a youth but did not come to know the Lord personally until his dad started attending and was saved. Ernie’s life was guided by his faith in Jesus Christ. Feeling a call to the ministry, he had considered becoming a pastor, but was lead to the profession of funeral director, which he considered his ministry. He was a member of the Oil City Community Alliance Church. He was a loving husband, a devoted father, and always willing to help neighbors, a mentor to many young funeral directors, and a proud Grand Pap. A cross-country runner while in high school, Ernie enjoyed attending class reunions and recently celebrated his 50th. He was a fan of all Penn State sports and the Pittsburgh Steelers. On June 3, 1972, he married Mary Ann Marley who survives. In addition to his wife, Ernie is survived by two sons, Matthew Deal and his wife Rebekah of Oil City, and Michael Deal and his wife Teri of Munhall; and five grandchildren, Benji Deal of Munhall, Madeleine Deal of Oil City, and Brooke, Bryce, and Taylor Gart of Oil City. Also surviving are a sister, Juanita Heavner of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; two brothers, David Deal and his wife Mary of Manchester, and Harold Deal of Chambersburg, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ernie was preceded in death by two brothers, James Deal and Eugene Deal; and a brother-in-law, Lane Heavner. Friends may call at the Morrison Funeral Home, 110 Petroleum Street, Oil City, Pa. on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, from 5 to 8 p.m. There will also be a visitation at the Sowers Funeral Home, 60 W. Main Street, Frostburg, on Thursday, March 27, 2014, from 5 to 8 p.m. A prayer service will be held on Wednesday at the Morrison Funeral Home following visitation. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Frostburg Church of the Nazarene 150 Center St. with Rev. Jerry Breedlove Jr. and Rev. Galen Winebrenner officiating.     JAMES HARVEY DEAL, SR.
    FROSTBURG - James Harvey Deal Sr., 76, of Hope Road, died Monday, Sept. 10, 1990 at Frostburg Community Hospital. He was born Dec. 3, 1913 in Mount Savage, son of the late Harvey W. and Annie (Beal) Deal. One brother and three sisters also preceded him in death. Mr. Deal was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was employed at Frostburg State University for 20 years as a boiler technician, retiring in 1979. He was a member of the Frostburg Church of the Nazarene and the Monday Morning Bowling League. Mr. Deal and his wife, the former Viola Winebrenner, who survives, observed their 50th wedding anniversary on Nov. 28, 1989. Also surviving are one daughter, Juanita Heavner, Bunker Hill, W.Va.; five sons, James H. Deal Jr. and Eugene R. Deal, both of Cumberland; David W. Deal, Manchester; Ernest E. Deal, Chambersburg, Pa.; Harold R. Deal, Council Bluffs, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at the funeral home Thursday at 1 p.m. by the Rev. Jack R. Pease and the Rev. Galen Winebrenner. Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.

    Viola Deal, age 92, of Bunker Hill, WVa. (formerly of Frostburg), died Monday, November 25, 2013 at the home of her daughter in Bunker Hill, W.Va. Born October 27, 1921 in Mount Savage, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late William Maurice and Susan Arvada (Hutzel) Winebrenner. She was married November 28, 1939 to James Harvey Deal, Sr., who died September 10, 1990. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, James Harvey Deal, Jr., and Eugene Richard Deal; a son-in-law, Herschel Lane Heavner; a great-grandson, Charles Edward Groves; and a great-great grandson, Nathan Allen Pryor. Last of her immediate family, she was also preceded by her brothers and sisters, Lonnie Raymond Winebrenner, Myrtle Alzine Rice, Sarah Elizabeth Bowers, William Benjamin Winebrenner, James Hiram Winebrenner, John Walter Winebrenner, Delcie Louise Witt, Cyrus Samuel Winebrenner, Clinton Edward “Doc” Winebrenner, Susanna Trimble, Ralph Francis “Jake” Winebrenner, Elnora Winebrenner, Jessie Wesley Winebrenner and David Wilbert Winebrenner. She did domestic work for several families in Frostburg and also in her church. Viola was a devoted homemaker, an excellent cook and baker who didn’t need recipes or measuring spoons. She enjoyed a good laugh, solving word puzzles and playing games, especially Rummikub and Chinese checkers. Family was important to her, and she looked forward to the annual Winebrenner Reunions. She was a member of the Frostburg Church of the Nazarene and the “elite 90’s group” at the church. Surviving are a daughter, Juanita Mae Heavner of Bunker Hill, W.Va. who was her special care giver; three sons, David William Deal and wife, Mary of Manchester, Md.; Earnest Edward Deal and wife, Mary Ann of Oil City, Pa.; Harold Raymond Deal of Chambersburg, Pa.; and a daughter-in-law, Grace A. Deal of Cumberland, Md.; 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home 57 Frost Avenue, Frostburg on Friday, November 29, 2013, 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
