Swearman; a daughter, Mrs. Connie Shaffer of Gibsonia; sons, Paul J. of Salisbury RD 1; Richard A., of Fort Hill RD 1; brothers, Kenneth, and Claude, both of Boynton; and sisters, Mrs. Beatrice Beal, and Mrs. Doretta Jones, both of Boynton; and five grandchildren. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Meyersdale, and a member of the Cement Masons Union No. 526 of Pittsburgh.     Gladys Pauline Critchfield, 89, of 139 School Road, Boynton, died Friday, June 18, 2004, at Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville, Md. Born March 15, 1915, at Meyersdale, she was the daughter of the late James and Ruth (Smeak) Swearman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul H. Critchfield. Mrs. Critchfield was a seamstress for the former Salisbury Undergarment Factory. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Meyersdale. Surviving are two sons: Paul (Bud) Critchfield and wife Betty, Salisbury; Richard Critchfield and wife Beverly, Fort Hill; one daughter, Connie Shaffer and husband Robert, Gibsonia; two sisters: Ethel Martincic, Lancaster; Elaine Miller, Meyersdale; seven grandchildren: Cindy, Tracy, Larissa, Ryan, Joy, Pam and Ann Marie; and six great-grandchildren: Nathan, Wade, Travis, Tyler, Dominique and Jesse. Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Inc., Salisbury. Services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Gene Abel officiating.     Jacob Smeak, one of this county's pioneer citizens, died at his home near Hyndman, last Thursday, from a complication of diseases, aged 59 years. He was highly respected in that community, and his kind and jolly disposition won for him a large circle of friends. He is survived by his wife and the following children: Mrs. Annie Hosselrode of Cook's Mills, and William, Charles, Harry, Emma, Ruth and Susan, at home. The funeral services were held Saturday in the Reformed church, Rev. J. F. Kerlin, pastor, officiating. The interment was made in Hyndman cemetery.
