LAVALE — Roy C. LaRue, 87, of LaVale, passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at the WMHS Frostburg Nursing and Rehab Center. Born May 12, 1923, in Ellerslie, Pa., he was the son of the late Clarence and Josephine (Burley) LaRue. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jesse LaRue; and mother and father-in-law, Clarence and Angie Thomas. Mr. LaRue was an Army veteran serving his country during World War II. He was a member of the Eckhart Baptist Church, where he was an active member. He served as deacon for over 35 years, Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher, Awana commander and retired as a deacon emeritus. He worked as a parts manager for various garages and retired from Gateway Motors. He is survived by his wife, Dona Jean (Thomas) LaRue; two sons, David LaRue, LaVale, and Paul LaRue, Watauga, Tenn.; and a daughter, JoAnne LaRue, LaVale. Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, March 5, 2011, at 1 p.m. with Pastor David Sandvick and Pastor Matt Eichhorn officiating. American Legion Farrady Post 24 will accord military honors at the graveside. Interment will be in the Eckhart Cemetery.

Mrs. Josephine LaRue of Ellerslie, Md., died at the home of her son, Roy LaRue at 259 East Main St., Frostburg, Md., Friday morning, Nov. 2, 1962. She was born Nov. 6, 1886, in Ellerslie, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Snelson Burley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence LaRue. Besides her son Roy, she had a son Jesse LaRue, who was killed in World War II. Survivors include a brother, William Burley, Hyndman, Rt. 1 and two grandchildren. She held membership in the Evangelical United Brethren Church of Ellerslie. Funeral services: Monday at 2 p.m. in the church in Ellerslie, the Rev. J. L. Tenney officiating, assisted by Rev. George Hattenfield. Interment in Cooks Mills Cemetery.
