Howard C. Berkheimer, 86, of Hyndman died Saturday, July 14, 1990, at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, Md. He was born Oct. 22, 1903, at Queen, a son of the late Thaddeus D. and Elmira V. (Hartle) Berkheimer. He was married to Ruth (Logsdon) Berkheimer, who died Dec. 10,1954. Surviving are a son, Frank D. Berkheimer of West Chester; a daughter, Mrs. Mary W. Williams, of Reisterstown, Md.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by a son, Merle H. Berkheimer, who died Feb. 14, 1990; by a great-grandson, Troy D. Leap, who died March 15, 1987, and by two brothers. Mr. Berkheimer was a retired textile worker, who had been employed for 25 years at the Amcelle plant of the Celanese Corp. of America. He also had worked as a farmer and was formerly employed at the Kelly Springfield Tire Co. In addition, he had received his teaching certification at Shippensburg State Teachers College and had been a teacher at the Pine Grove School near Hyndman. He was a member of the Cooks Mills United Methodist Church. Funeral services: Tuesday, July 17, at 11 a.m. in the Cooks Mills United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Joseph R. Stains officiating. Burial in Porter Cemetery near Ellerslie, Md. Visitation 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, and for one hour prior to the service at the church.

HYNDMAN — Mrs. Ruth (Logsdon) Berkheimer, 52, widow of Howard Berkheimer, of here, died early today at her home. She was a daughter of the late Frank and Emma (Burley) Logsdon, and was a member of the Methodist Church. Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Mary Williams, Baltimore; two sons, Frank Berkheimer and Merle Berkheimer. both at home; two brothers, Thomas Logsdon, Cumberland, and Tim Logsdon, Hyndman, and three sisters, Miss Esther Logsdon, Miss Mary Logsdon and Miss Delilah Logsdon, all of Hyndman. Services will be conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Zeigler Funeral Home by Rev. T. E. Richardson. Burial will be in the Porter Cemetery. The Cumberland Evening Times, December 10, 1954

Surviving are his widow, the former Emma Burley, and the following children: Thomas, Cumberland; Mary Logsdon, Rt. 1, Cumberland; Esther and Delilah, at home; Mrs. Bruce Berkheimer and Timothy Logsdon, Hyndman; and a foster son, John Burley, at home. Her husband died about three years ago. She was a member of Cook's Mill Methodist Chapel. Surviving are six children, Thomas Logsdon, of Cumberland; Mrs. Ruth Burkheimer, of Hyndman, and Esther, Mary, Delilah and Timothy Logsdon, all at home; and two sisters, Mrs. Harvey Gaumer, of Hyndman, and Mrs. James Lowery, of Cumberland.
