Cumberland,Maryland --- James Peter Morris, 82, of Cumberland, passed away Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at his home.

Born Feb. 26, 1927, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Peter Michael Morris and Edna (DeVore) Morris. Mr. Morris was also preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Audrey Virginia Morris, on May 25, 2001; a daughter, Tammy Lynn Morris; a sister, Shirley Plummer; and a brother, Richard Morris.

A United States Naval veteran of World War II, Jim retired from Stroehman Bakery. He was a member of the Henry Hart Post 1411 V.F.W. and attended the Potomac Valley Revival Center.

Jim is survived by his son, David Morris and his wife Roz, of Bedford, Pa; his grandchildren, Krista Morris, Tony Morris, Devin Morris, Shaunna Baker, Chad Baker, Chrissy Stevens, James Stevens and Earl Emerick; his sisters, Mary Plummer, Delores Stottlemeyer and Ann Taylor; and his brother, Francis Morris.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com on Monday, March 2, 2009, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Michael Stottlemeyer officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

CUMBERLAND Edna Mae (Devore) Morris, 96, of Cumberland, went to be with her Lord, her husband, and her son as her loving family was gathered at her bedside, on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland. Born July 1, 1906, in Ellerslie, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Rachel M. (Witt) Devore. She was preceded in death by her husband Peter M. Morris; one brother, Merle DeVore; one sister, Elsie Combs; one son, Richard J. Morris; two daughters-in-law, Marlene and Audrey Morris; and one granddaughter, Tammy Morris. Mrs. Morris was a member of the Christian Fellowship of Cumberland Church, 16 Virginia Avenue, and the Bedford Valley Senior Citizens Center. Surviving are two sons, James P. Morris, and the Rev. Francis E. Morris and wife Shirley, all of Cumberland; four daughters, Anna S. Taylor and husband Charles, Ellerslie, Mary T. Huffman Plummer and husband Robert, LaVale, Deloris M. Stottlemyer, Cumberland, and Shirley A. Plummer and husband Richard, W.Va.; 21 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and 30 great-great-grandchildren. She will be missed by many special friends from Potomac Valley Revival Center and Christian Fellowship of Cumberland. She has been such a great inspiration to all. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the Christian Fellowship Church, 16 Virginia Ave., on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David Stottlemyer officiating. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be great-grandsons, Brian Morris, Stevie Morris, Jason Inglish, and grandsons, Wayne Morris, Jimmy Stottlemyer and Gregg Poland.

Benjamin De Vore, 72, of Corriganville, died early last night at his home. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Rachel M. (Witt) DeVore; four daughters, Mrs. Peter Morris, Cash Valley; Mrs. Charles R. Smouse, Hyndman, Pa.; Mrs. Arley Combs, La Vale, and Mrs. Melvin Bohn, at home; a son, Merle, of Corriganville; two brothers, Thomas and John DeVore, both of Ellerslie, and eight grandchildren. Mrs. Rachel May DeVore, 82, died yesterday at her home in Ellerslie. She had been in ill health for some time. Born in Bedford County, Pa., she was a daughter of the late William and Catherine (Clites) Witt. Her husband, Benjamin DeVore, preceded her in death. Surviving are son, Merle DeVore, Ellerslie; four daughters, Mrs. Edna Morris, Cumberland; Mrs. Mary Smouse, RD 1, Hyndman; Mrs. Elsie Combs, LaVale, and Mrs. Dorothy Bohn, Ellerslie; a sister, Mrs. Anna Hasselrode, Hyndman; eight grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.The body is at the Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, where friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p. m. and tomorrow from 2 to 4 p. m. and 7 to 9 p. m. Services will be conducted there Monday at 2 p. m. by Rev. Arthur Vespa. Burial will be in Porter Cemetery. The Cumberland News, February 12, 1966
