    "ISAAC J. HIGGINS DIES"

    "Succumbs to Lingering Illness, Leaving Five Small Children. Funeral Wednesday Afternoon"

    "Isaac J. Higgins died Monday morning, Feb. 18th, after a lingering illness with tuberculosis, at the home of his sister, Mrs. Katie White. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Presbyterian church and were in charge of Rev. Paul J. Gilbert. Interment in Monticello cemetery."

    "Mr. Higgins was the son of Mr. and Mrs. George O. Higgins and was one of ten children. He was born on a farm near Monticello Feb. 28, 1882. On Oct. 21, 1901, he was united in marriage with Janie McKenzie and to this union six children were born, Frances (sic) dying last March and Mrs. Higgins on Aug. 19th last of blood poisoning. After the death of his wife, Mr. Higgins' health failed rapidly. He was taken to the Baldwin sanatorium at Kalamazoo, Mich., for treatment but only remained a short time. He was accompanied by his sister, Mrs. Katie White, who returned home with him on January 17th and he was taken directly to her home where he passed away at the age of thirty five years, eleven months and twenty days."

    "Mr. Higgins is survived by his five children: Willard, Charles, Harold, Mary and Lewis, all at home; six sisters: Mrs. Charles Parks, of White Heath; Mrs.Katie White, Mrs. Fred Pierce, Mrs. Charles Tabor, Mrs. Charles Doss, of Monticello; and Mrs. Harry Russell of Lakewood. Mr. Higgins will be greatly missed by his little family and was always kind and affectionate in his home life."

    "DEATH OF MRS. ISAAC HIGGINS"

    Occurred Sunday at the Macon County Hospital from Injuries Received Recently

    "Mrs. Isaac Higgins of this city died Monday night, August 19th, at 7:20 at the Macon County Hospital in Decatur as the result of blood poisoning. She was taken to the hospital on Wednesday, August 15th, and for a couple of days, her condition seemed to improve."

    "Mrs. Higgins, it will be remembered, tried to commit suicide on Sunday night, August 2, by lying down in front of an I.T.S. car. She was badly cut, and the left hand badly crushed and for a time it was thought the arm would have to be amputated. The body was brought to Monticello over the Wabash Monday at 12:52 and taken directly to the family residence. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock at the Catholic church. Rev. Father Selva of Bement was in charge. Interment in Monticello cemetery."

    "Sarah Jane McKenzie was born in Fayette county, Dec. 24, 1883, and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward McKenzie of this city. On Oct. 21, 1901, she was united in marriage to Isaac Higgins. Six children were born to this union, five of whom are living, Francis dying five months ago, and it was grief over his death that undermined her health and caused the act which finally resulted in her death."

    "Besides her parents and her husband, I. J. Higgins, she leaves the five children: Willard, Charles, Harold, Lewis, and Mary. She also leaves four brothers, Mike, Pearl and Earl of Camp Lincoln, and Francis, of Monticello, and two sisters, Mrs. Agnes Wilcut of Bement, and Irene of Monticello. The family have the sympathy of the community."

    "OBITUARY--EDWARD MCKENZIE"

    "Edward McKenzie, for many years a resident of Monticello, died in his home on Vine street, in Monticello, Thursday, October 16, following an illness of long duration. Funeral services were held from St. Philomena's church on Saturday morning at nine o'clock conducted by Rev. D. Healey and the interment was in the Monticello cemetery. He was born in Effingham county, Illinois, and was married to Miss Sarah Katherine (sic) Meyer in that county on September 10, 1882, coming to this county in 1889.

    "Eleven children were born to this union, six of whom, with Mrs. McKenzie, survive: Mrs. John Wilcut of Felton, Minn., Mike of Los Angeles, Calif., Earl of Decatur, Irene, Pearle and Francis at home.

    "He also leaves four brothers and three sisters; James of Decatur, Curtis and Charles of Altamont, and Joseph of Lovington, Mrs. J.D. Rhodes of St. Elmo, Mrs. W.M. Hosler of Monticello and Mrs. Saint Doty of Bement and nine grandchildren."

    "Mrs. Sarah Katherine (sic) McKenzie, 83, Monticello, died at 3:20 p.m. Monday at Kirby hospital, where she had been a patient since suffering a stroke a week ago."

    "Funeral services were held at 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. Philomena's Catholic church, Monticello with Father Andrew Dzuryo officiating. Burial was in Monticello cemetery with the Mackery funeral home in charge."

    "Mrs. McKenzie was born March 26, 1864, in Effingham county, and was married to Michael Edward McKenzie on Sept. 10, 1882, at Altamore (sic). They come to Monticello in 1900, and Mr. McKenzie died several years ago."
