"Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Clare Catholic Church, Altamont, with burial in St. Clare Catholic Church Cemetery, Altamont, with military rites. Visitation was from 3-6 p.m. Sunday at the Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont, with a 5 p.m. Rosary."

"Mr. Rhodes was born April 21, 1919, in Fayette County, the son of Joseph L. and Barbara (Vogel) Rhodes."

"He was retired from Caterpillar Tractor Co., Peoria; Knights of Columbus; Spalding Council #427; and a WWII Army Veteran."

"Joseph Lewis Rhodes, 100, of Altamont, formerly of St. Elmo, died at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, August 15, 1992 at Lutheran Care Center, Altamont."

"Mr. Rhodes was born December 28, 1891, in rural St. Elmo, the son of John Douglas and Nancy (McKenzie) Rhodes. He married Barbara Vogel in 1915."

"He was a retired railroad section worker and a member of St. Clare Catholic Church, Altamont, and Modern Woodmen Lodge, Vandalia."

"Surviving are his son, Francis of Peoria; daughters, Margaret Rhodes of St. Elmo; Mickie Bender of St. Louis; Rachel Caudle of Tolleson, AZ; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren."

"He was preceded in death by two sons, two brothers and one sister."

"Funeral services were held on Tuesday, August 18 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Clare Catholic Church, Altamont with Rev. T. Vincent Worland officiating. Burial was in St. Bonaventure Catholic Church Cemetery, St. Elmo. Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont, was in charge of arrangements."

"Mrs. Barbara Rhodes, 78, of Altamont died at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, March 31, in Belle Fontaine Neighbors, St. Louis, where she had resided for several months."

"She is survived by two sons, Charles Rhodes, St. Elmo, and Francis Rhodes, Peoria; three daughters, Sister Margaret Ann, Ruma, IL., Mrs. Mary Bender, St. Louis, and Mrs. Rachel Caudel, Tolleson, Ariz., two grandchildren, and four brothers, Philip Vogel, Jacksonville, Chris Vogel, St. Elmo, Henry Vogel, Arcola, and Louis Vogel, East Peoria. "John Douglas Rhodes, father of Louis (sic) Rhodes of this city died at his home four miles north of St. Elmo on Monday, following an illness of several years. He attained the age of 76 years, two months and 27 days."

"Mr. Rhodes was the son of Joe Rhodes and Rachel McKenzie Rhodes. In early manhood he married Miss Nancy McKenzie. To this union four children were born, three dying in infancy."

"He is survived by his widow and one son Louis, and a host of friends."

"Funeral services were conducted this (Wednesday) morning from the St. Bonaventure Church, north of St. Elmo, and interment was in the church cemetery."

"RITES HELD WEDNESDAY FOR MRS. NANCY RHODES; DEATH DUE TO STROKE"

"Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Joseph McKeogh for Mrs. Nancy McKenzie Rhodes, from the St. Bonaventure Catholic Church north of St. Elmo Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock."

"Mrs. Rhodes, who had been in failing health for the past few months, fell, injuring her shoulder and was taken to the Mark Greer hospital in Vandalia for treatment June 27th, and was moved to the Bennett nursing home there July 2nd., where she was cared for until her death."

"Sunday evening, Oct. 16, she suffered a paralytic stroke about 8 o'clock and passed away at 1 a.m. Monday."

"Burial was in the church cemetery under the direction of Gerald Gieseking, mortician."

They has 9 children: Benjamin Francis, Michael Edward, Sarah, Nancy Maria, James Jacob Wilson, Charles Henry, Mary Agnes (Maria), Margaret Melissa and Lewis Curtis (Louis) McKenzie.
Lewis married 2nd 9 Jun 1883 Sarah Catherine Hissong. They had one child: Joseph E. McKenzie.

"LEWIS MCKENZIE DIES AT HOME"

"Lewis McKenzie died at his home two miles west of Moccasin, Friday morning at 6 o'clock, Jan. 5, 1917. He was 79 years old at the time of his death."

"Mr. McKenzie was born in Knox Co., Ohio, Sept. 23, 1837 and came to Illinois when he was but 10 years old together with his father, mother, two brothers and one sister.* From this family the sister, Mrs. Katie Durbin, is the only one living. His brother Frank having gone to the home of God last February."

"The first brother, John, died about 70 years ago and was the first person to be buried in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery."

"Mr. McKenzie was married the second time. His first wife was Miss Normanda Logue of Effingham Co. To this union were born nine children. Benny, the oldest boy, and Sarah, the oldest girl, died years ago. The surviving children of this union are: Edward McKenzie and Mrs. William Hosler, Monticello, Mrs. Saint Doty and James McKenzie, Lovington, Mrs. J.D. Rhodes, Avena, Charles McKenzie, Altamont and Curtis McKenzie, Beecher City, Illinois."

"His second marriage was to Mrs. Sarah Dial, who remains after him. One boy, Joseph, was the only child born to them."

"Mr. McKenzie was a good Christian man having lived and died a good Catholic and besides his wife and children, he leaves many relatives and friends to mourn his departure."

"He was buried at the St. Bonaventure Cemetery, the funeral being preached by Rev. Father Walsh, of Altamont, Illinois."
