  1. 1.  Sarah Jane McKenzie was born in 1835 (daughter of Augustine (Austin) McKenzie and Mary Ford); died in UNKNOWN.

Generation: 2

  1. 2.  Augustine (Austin) McKenzieAugustine (Austin) McKenzie was born on 9 Feb 1785 in Baltimore County, Maryland (son of Henry MacKenzie and Elizabeth Porter); died on 9 Aug 1849 in Jackson TWP, Seneca County, Ohio.

    Notes:

From David Aiken in July, 2013, as follows:

    Hi, Mike:

Your research on the origins of John McKenzie (b. 1659 in Maryland) certainly makes a strong case that he was not the son of Colin Malcolm and Isobel, but if not, then where did he come from?

Anyway, here is my descent from Austin McKenzie:

Austin (or Augustine, or Ostin, or Austine) McKenzie (b. 9 Feb 1785 in Westminster, Frederic Co., MD, d. 9 Aug 1849), probable son of Henry McKenzie and Elizabeth Porter, m. Mary Ford (b. 27 Feb 1798, d. 25 Aug 1866) on 21 Jan 1821. Austin was a saddle maker, and lived in a three-family house on Main St., Westminster in 1821. My mother used to have a photograph of this house, but it – along with all of her genealogical research material - was lost in a flood many years ago. I have been unable to find any further information on Mary Ford. Written evidence establishing Austin as the son of Henry has not yet been found, but given the proximity of his residence to those of Henry McKenzie’s other children, it seems probable that he is also Henry’s son, and this is the position generally accepted by other genealogists. Austin is the only child not named in Henry McKenzie’s will, which is apparently the
only written evidence linking any of Henry’s children to him.

Louisa M. McKenzie (b. 12 Jul 1824 in Westminster, MD, d. 26 Nov 1896) daughter of Austin McKenzie and Mary Ford, m. George Michael Brückner (b. 10 May 1819 in Ansbach, Bavaria, d. 22 Apr 1903 in Seneca Co, Ohio) on 24 Oct 1844 in Seneca Co. Ohio.

My mother, June M. (Holzworth) Aiken talked about her great-grandmother (Louisa M. McKenzie) telling her that as a child she (Louisa) played with the children on the McKenzie plantation in Maryland. Louisa moved to Ohio about 1834 and died in 1896, about 22 years before June Holzworth was born, so this story is simply not true. Neither could the story have come from June's mother, Eva Louise Brickner, granddaughter of Louisa M. McKenzie, because Eva was only one year old when Louisa M. died, too young to remember her.

According to our family legend, Henry McKenzie had a brother, James, who married an orphan named 'Bridget', and moved to Lexington, KY. Another brother supposedly remained in Scotland. Since the family legend has it that all three brothers were born in Scotland, the sons of a Garret MacKenzie of Dalkeith, and since there is considerable documentary evidence that Henry was born in Maryland, it appears that either (1) the family legend is wrong, or (2) the McKenzie family from which Louisa A. McKenzie descended is not directly related to the same Henry McKenzie (b. 1743) from which the Maryland McKenzies are said to descend. I can find no evidence of a Garret MacKenzie, nor of a brother named James. By the time I began to realize the inconsistencies in this lineage, my mother had become too old to remember without the aid of her research material, which she no longer had.

    Edward Andrew Brickner, (b. 21 Jun 1866, d. 20 Jan 1924), son of Louisa McKenzie and George Brückner, m. Louisa M. Greenwald, (b. Jun 1868, d. 16 Sep 1961) on 17 Sep 1887 in Tiffin, Ohio.
Eva Louise Brickner, (b. 16 Nov 1895, d. 12 Apr 1999), daughter of Edward Andrew Brickner and Louisa Greenwald, m. George Dewey Holzworth, (b. 23 May 1898, d. 14 Sep 1972), on 2 Jun 1917 in Adrian, MI. They had two children:

    June Marise Holzworth (7 Mar 1918 – 1 Jun 2009) – my mother – married Warren R. Aiken (24 Jun 1916 – 25 Aug 2009) – my father.
    Cecilia Mae Holzworth (13 May 1919 – 10 Sep 2004)

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Death: 1783, Anne Arundel Co., MD

    Notes:

In 1785, Daniel Mckenzie lived in Anne Arundel County and owned "Molly's Fancy".

The following email was compiled by Dick MacKenzie in July, 2014 in his continuing attempt to try to determine the parental connection, if possible, for Isreal McKenzie and Hiram McKenzie, two names which appear in the late 1700's and early 1800's in the Baltimore, Maryland area. The Daniel, Jr. listed below is the son of Daniel MacKenzie (b. 1717).

I’ll try to lay this all out and maybe someone can connect dots, although I fear that the lack of good, solid record information may preclude anything definite.

We know that Daniel Jr. was in Anne Arundel Co. in January 1790, when the children of Daniel Sr. were involved in the court case in Frederick Co., Jr. and wife Ann having disposed of their land holdings in Frederick Co. prior to that date. However, Jr. never appears in a census there. In fact, the only person who does in 1790 is John “McKinsey” with 2 males under 16, 2 over 16, and 3 females. Of course, the bottom left portion of the AA Co. census pages are either missing or illegible, so there might have been other McKinseys shown that we can’t see. We also know, from the patent on “MacKinzie’s Angle” in September 1807 that Mary “Molly” MacKinzie, widow of Daniel Sr. was still alive at that point and apparently living in AA Co. On 27 Nov 1811 in AA Co., John McKinsey of Daniel has surveyed “McKinsey’s Manor” for 2 roods, 16 perches of land adjoining “Batchelors’ Choice” and “Carter’s Addition” (meaning that it was in the exact same area as the original MacKenzie family land holdings), and, although a warrant was granted to John of Daniel on 12 Feb 1812, just a month later, on 18 Mar 1812, John B. Dorsey has the same land resurveyed as “McKinsey’s Manor Neglected” and has it patented on 15 Dec 1813. Does that mean that John was a son of Daniel Jr.? I suspect so, but may never be able to prove it. In any event, it appears this John had up to 5 children, and would have been born in the 1760’s or 1770’s.

Move forward to 1800, and we have 4 McKinsey families shown in AA Co.:

    Michael – I male under 10, four 16-25, one 45+; 1 female under 10, one 16-25, one 45+ (pg. 589)
    William – 2 males under 10, one 26-45; 1 female under 10, one 45+ (pg. 588)
    Daniel – 1 male 26-45; 2 females under 10, one 16-25 (pg. 588)
    William – 1 male under 10, one 10-15, one 45+; 1 female under 10, two 10-15, one 45+ (pg. 587)

Then in 1810 as Mackinsey (indexed in Ancestry as Mackinney):

    Michael – one male 16-25, one 45+; 1 female 45+
    Aaron – 3 males under 10, two 10-15, one 45+; 2 females under 10, one 10-15, one 45+

These two families are next door to each other, and we know for sure that Aaron is Daniel Sr.’s youngest son, now living on Daniel’s portion (96 acres) inherited from his father John (and his mother apparently deceased), and it is equally assured that Michael is living on the other inherited land there (98 acres), with the only question being whether this is Michael of John (b. @ 1730) or a son by the same name. Then 16 lines later, the two following Mackinsey families:

    Daniel –2 males under 10, one 17-26, one 45+; 1 female 17-26, one 17-45.
    Orphelia – 1 male under 10, one 10-15; 2 females under 10, one 26-44.

The ages of Daniel’s children don’t match the 1800 Census ages. I do think Orphelia is the Orpha who appears again in 1830 -1860, and no I can’t locate her in 1820, but I have no idea who she might have been married to (if anyone?) and how she kept accumulating children. Orpha was also the name of one of Daniel Sr.’s daughters, so there was a penchant for the name in the family. Maybe she never married,
