NOTE: The Pearce family settled in Steubenville, Jefferson Co., OH upon relocation from Maryland between 1836 and 1842. As of the 1860 Census, Enoch Sr. was married to Mary b. 1809 Ireland, thus the assumption that Rachel had died by then. Enoch Pearce Jr. was an Allopathic Physician, and, according to the “Directory of Deceased American Physicians, 1804-1929”
was born in Westminster, MD [now Carroll Co., but at that time still on the boundary of Baltimore and Frederick Counties] and received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, 1854, after which he began his practice in Steubenville, O

Little is known of the children of Enoch Jr., although there is no indication that any of them ever married, with several residing together in Steubenville until the early 1900’s. Frank S. is shown as a Physician in the 1900 and 1910 Census, the earlier in Steubenville, and the latter while a lodger at a boarding house near Locust & Broad Sts. in Philadelphia [near Jefferson Medical College coincidentally]. He cannot be located after that time. Enoch Stanton Pearce is shown as a Lawyer in the 1900 Census.

In another email from Dick MacKenzie dated 9 Sep 2013, he wrote:

Now, on to the other Aaron d. 1831, who was the youngest son of Daniel2. His offspring never went to Allegany Co. or anywhere else in Western MD as far as I can tell. Jesse b. 1807 is not of this Aaron. Aaron’s children were born about as follows:

Caleb b. @1791 (Don’s ancestor, who married Elizabeth Pierce and stayed in the Ellicott City area)
Jesse @ 1792 (who is believed to have also stayed in Ellicott City)
Mary L. @ 1795 (Married Joseph Pierce, stayed local, and their daughter Rachel Elizabeth married Joseph McKenzie, brother of Israel Jr.)
    David (my ancestor) b. 1798
Catherine b. 1800 (married John Hancock Hyatt and moved to Zanesville, Muskingum Co., OH in the late 1820’s)
Rachel b.@ 1803 (married Enoch Pearce and moved to Steubenville, Jefferson Co., OH by 1842. He had a different wife by 1860)
Aaron b.@ 1810 (lived on the family property in Ellicott City w/older brother David, apparently never married)

John Hancock died in Zanesville, and Catherine and the children moved to Knox Co., OH by 1840, when son John is shown as head of household. Why Knox Co? Maybe because she had cousins there? I don’t know if this untangles anything – maybe just makes the mess messier!?

Will of Aaron McKenzie (b. 1769)

Anne Arundel Co., MD Will Book 40, p.106

The will of Aaron McKenzie, dated 13 Mar 1828 and probated 23 May 1831, states the following: First: giving my part of land in Anne Arundel Co., called "Hopkins Choice" to my two sons, David and Aaron. Then, I give to my two sons David and Aaron, another tract of land known as "Addition to Hopkins Choice." Second I desire that a tract "McKenzie's Pleasure," lying between "Maidens Bower" and "Carters Whim" be sold and the money applied to payment of my debts. I desire that six acres of land belonging to me lying between "Carters Whim" and "Carters Addition," be sold with the money going to my estate, and the remining part of "McKenzies Pleasure" I give to my two sons David and Aaron. I give to my wife Rachel McKenzie one cow of her choice. I give to my oldest son Caleb McKenzie*, my son Jesse McKenzie, my daughter Catherine Hyatt, my daughter Mary Pierce*, and my daughter Rachel Pearce* the sum of one dollar each, and all the balance of my estate to my two sons David and Aaron McKenzie.

I have underlined "my part" to suggest the possibility that Aaron shared a larger tract of the same name with his brother or brothers.

*Please note that Mary and Rachel married a Pierce/Pearce and that my 3rd. great grandfather Caleb married Elizabeth Pierce. I would suggest that this Caleb is the correct son of Aaron and is not the Caleb who married Margaret Magers and settled in Ohio as other researchers have stated.

Aaron married Mary Rachel Earp on 11 Mar 1789 in Baltimore County, Maryland. Mary (daughter of Joseph II Earp and Elizabeth Something) was born about 1764 in Anne Arundel County, Maryland; died in UNKNOWN. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
