- SCOTTDALE, Jan. 6 — Thomas W. Porter, 77 years of age, one of the oldest grocers in Scottdale, died last night at 8 o'clock at his home at 705 Chestnut street. He had been ill for some time. Mr. Porter had been a member of the firm of Porter and Stoner from 1890 until 1929, when it went out of business. He was a member of the United Brethren Church and the Men's Bible Class. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ada Porter, and the following brothers and sisters: M. B. Porter, H. C. Porter, Mrs. Gertrude Dull, Mrs. William Johnson, Mrs. Emma Stoner of Scottdale; Ellis Porter of Riverside, Cal.; Mrs. Margaret Owen of Toledo, Iowa; Mrs. Alice Gault, Mrs. Delmer Cottom of Lower Tyrone township, Mrs. Alice Torrance, and Mrs. Rebecca Gault of Greensburg, Mrs. Nelle Gault of Leckrone and Mrs. Jesse Simpson of Iowa and Lex Porter of Connellsville. The funeral service will be Friday at 2:30 o'clock at the home, with Rev. M. M. Snyder of the United Brethren Church officiating. Burial will be at Alverton.
