Notes	bLimestone Baptist Church /bAug 2007 , Cobden, Union, Illinois In 1819, Cornelius & Mary Scott Anderson came to Union Co., IL to purchase land. They purchased 182 acres of prime land in Cobden, but the remained in Stewart Co., TN. In 1820, their daughter, Elizabeth, and her husband, Thomas Ferrill, moved to Cobden after purchasing 30 acres of land from Cornelius and Mary. Later, Elizabeth's borther, Timothy, and his wife, Druscilla Biggs Anderson, purchased 150 acres from his parents and moved to Cobden. In 1825, Thisbe Anderson and her husband, Davis W. Biggs, moved to Cobden. Cornelius "Neely" Anderson and his wife and son moved to Cobden in 1836. When Cornelius died, Mary came to live with Neely. On May 18, 1836, three acres were purchased by Davis Biggs, James Ferrill, Samuel Miller, Jacob Clutts, Jacob Wigle, Philip Clutts, Andrew Penrod, William Hagler, & Thomas Ferrill for six dollars from Timothy & Druscilla Anderson for the erection of a school and meeting house. The tract of land was described as follows: SW qtr of section No. 7 beginning on the line that divides Timothy Anderson & Davis W. Biggs land. The United Baptist Limestone Church was founded in Sep 1837. It location is this same tract of land. Sometime between 1837 & 1854 the first chuch burned and all records were destroyed. Then, on the 22nd day of Jul 1854, Davis W. & Thisbe Biggs donated to the trustees of the United Baptist Limestone Church (Elias Dilda, Joseph Sames, & Jacob Clutts) a certain tract of land being part of the SW quarter of section No. 7, Township 11 South, Range 1 West. This donation may have been given to rebuild the church, but we are unable to locate positive information to support this theory. We do know that the church was built near the residence of Davis W. Biggs and rebuilt in the same area after it burned. Located about 100 yards south of the church you will find the first cemetery of Limestone Baptist Church. D. W. & Thisbe Biggs, along with many former members are buried there.
