Bridges, 79, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at Memorial Hospital. Born Sept. 23, 1923, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Albert and Pearl (Diehl) Bridges. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Ellen Bridges in 1992; two brothers and two sons. Mr. Bridges was a retired barber in the Frostburg area. He was Catholic by faith, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of the Cumberland V.F.W., Cumberland American Legion and the Cumberland Eagles. Surviving are three daughters, Betty Lee Kendall and husband Richard, Cumberland, Kathryn Bridges, Conway, S.C., Thomasine Ann Butler and husband Charles, Cumberland; one sister, Blanche Burton, Baltimore; one brother, Howard Bridges, Sunnyside; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. Graveside services will be conducted Friday at 10:15 a.m. at the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap, Flintstone, with Rev. Million A. Hipsley officiating. Graveside military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
