      CARLOS — Mella Virginia Hitchins, 85, of Carlos, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 28, 2009, at Frostburg Village Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Lord on April 3, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Frank Miller and Martha (Dawson) Miller. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Thomas Hitchins on Aug. 11, 2008. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Caroline Custer, Pauline Gomer and Martha DePaulis; and two brothers, Frank “Poke” Miller and Raymond Miller. She attended Carlos United Methodist Church, she was Christian by faith. She was a former employee of the Celanese Fiber Corp. in the Bobbin Store. She is survived by three sons, Leslie Hitchins of Carlos, Ronald Hitchins and wife Nora of Midlothian and Timothy Hitchins and wife Tammy of Carlos; three daughters, M. Jeanne Herrell and husband Steve of Rawlings, Cynthia Hitchins of Frostburg and Melody Fink and husband Ron of Cumberland. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Rhonda Skidmore, Eddie Hitchins, Kendra Fink and special friend Luke Merkel, Travis Hitchins and special friend Shayla Felker, Brandon Hitchins, Tessa Hitchins and twins, Curtis and Colten Fink; two great grandchildren, Thomas Hitchins and Ashlyne Skidmore; two brothers, Joe Miller and Melvin Miller; three sisters, Maxine Beeman, Donna Saveleski and Phyllis Huppmanl and several nieces and nephews. At Mella’s request the family held a private viewing, and a private funeral service was held by the Rev. George Harpold at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home P.A., Midland. Interment followed at Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland. The family would like to thank the Frostburg Village Nursing Home for the special care and kindness that was shown and provided by the nursing staff, especially her beloved granddaughter, Kendra Fink, GNA. The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Carlos United Methodist Church, Carlos. Pallbearers were three of her grandsons Eddie, Travis and Brandon Hitchins, also Ron Fink, Steve Herrell and Denny Skidmore.
