- J. Albert Smith – Westernport – J. Albert (Bert) Smith, 83, former engineer for the Cumberland Coal Company in Albert, W. Va., and the West Virginia State Roads Commission, died yesterday in Dearborn, Michigan. Mr. Smith, a native of Frostburg, also served a term as Tucker County, W. Va., commissioner. He resided in Westernport from 1948 to 1962. His wife, Mona (Fazenbaker) Smith died 17 years ago. Surviving are a son, James A. Smith Jr., Dearborn, with who he resided; a daughter, Mrs. Mona Mildred Hobson, Shreveport, La.; two sisters, Mrs. John L. Ort, LaVale, and Mrs. Vida Smith, Columbia, S.C.; a brother, Bernard B. Smith, Philadelphia; six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Mr. Smith was a member of Morgantown Lodge 4, AF&AM, having joined the Masonic Order in Thomas, W.Va. 57 years ago. The body will be returned to the Boal Funeral Home here, where services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon. Rev. Bayard Carmiencke, rector of St. James Episcopal Church, will officiate and interment will be in the Philos Cemetery. Cumberland Evening Times, Saturday, October 10, 1964
