- Delbert Virgil Hager, 67, of RD 4, Messick Road, city, died Thursday in the Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C., where he has been a patient for three months. Born in Cumberland, he was a son of the late James F. Hager and the late Eva (Zerbach) Hager. He was a retired employee of the Chessie System, where he worked as a machinist helper. He was a member of the International Association of Machinist Helpers, a member of Christ United Methodist Church, and an Air Force veteran of World War II. He is survived by his widow, Phyllis (Layman) Hager; one daughter, Mrs. Jackileen Kaiser, RD 4, Messick Road, city; a niece whom the couple raised, Mrs. Sheila Humbertson, RD 4; one brother, James R. Hager, city; three sisters, Mrs. Almeda Fisher, Mrs. Lois Zollner, Mrs. Rose Marie Layman, all of city; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Friends will be received at the Silcox-Merritt Funeral Residence Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted Sunday at 1 p.m. by the Rev. Wayne Turner, pastor of Christ United Methodist Church and the Rev. William Robey, chaplain of Washington Medical Center. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Robert Metz, Steve Layman, Glenn Brooks, Richard Ross, Charles Brooks, and Mark Brayer. The Cumberland Evening Times, November 29, 1985
