FROSTBURG — Vernon Ray Robeson, 89, of Frostburg, died Saturday, May 30, 2009, at WMHS-Braddock Campus. Born March 27, 1920 in Avilton, he was the son of the late Enoch and Lillie (Blocher) Robeson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Malloy) Robeson; and brothers, Forest Robeson, Harry Robeson, Edwin Robeson, William Robeson, Owen Robeson and Albert Robeson. Vernon was the last surviving member of his family. Vernon served his country during World War II as a staff sergeant with the Army Air Force. He was a retired school teacher with the Allegany County School System. He was a member of the Frostburg United Methodist Church, American Legion Farrady Post 24, the Woodman of the World and The Order of United Commercial Travelers of America. He is survived by his daughter, Bonnie Robeson, Columbia. Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., Frostburg, on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Rebecca Vardiman officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Frostburg United Methodist Church, 48 W. Main Street, Frostburg, MD 21532. Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded by Farrady Post 24.
