- PA Birth Certificate information:
Evelyn applied for a Delayed Birth Certificate in Nov. 1942, swearing that her date of birth was February 6, 1906, and that she was the 5th child born into the family. She had previously incorrectly given her date of birth in an attempt to get into the service (which she did). However, written across the delayed birth certificate is the word VOID.
The information on her WV Death Certificate lists her dob as February 6, 1907, age 44.
She died on 21 Feb 1951 at the age of 44 in Martinsburg, Berkley Co., West Virginia.
Mrs. Evelyn M. Wolford, 1723 Bedford Street, died early today in Newton D. Baker VA Center, Martinsburg, W. Va., where she had been a patient about a year. Born in Hyndman, Pa., Mrs. Wolford operated a beauty shop on South Liberty Street here for nearly 30 years. She entered the Army Women's Auxiliary corps in 1942 and served three years overseas in the Pacific theater. Following her discharge from the armed forces, Mrs. Wolford accepted a Civil Service position and was supervisor of property and supply at Manila and Okinawa. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Florence Thomas, Meyersdale, Pa., and Mrs. John Mason, Hyndman, and a brother, Fred Hasselrode, also of Hyndman. The body will arrive at the Stein Funeral Home late this afternoon for rites Friday at 2 p. m. with Rev. Dr. Hixon T. Bowersox, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, officiating. Evelyn M. Wolford, former WAC and beauty shop operator who died two weeks ago in Newton D. Baker VA Center, Martinsburg, W. Va., bequeathed government bonds and house at Cook's Mills, Pa., to her mother, Mrs. Annie Mason. She also left rings to her two nieces and nephew.
